Tricky access in Richmond

New Geosciences Limited was on site in London recently to undertake a ground investigation where restricted access required a slightly different approach.
The site comprised an historical electricity substation with a basement that the developer proposes to extend. Confirming the depth to groundwater was required as part of a basement impact assessment, but access restrictions meant undertaking a borehole investigation would prove impractical and costly.
In order to provide the data required in a cost effective way, New Geosciences Limited hand-excavated a trial pit and installed a monitoring well for ongoing groundwater level measurement. The work was undertaken safely, within one day, and without the requirement for costly crane hire.
The hand excavation of trial pits can serve a range of purposes, including providing information on sites with restricted access such as this one, as a cost effective method of recovering soil samples, or to confirm the dimensions of existing foundations and the engineering properties of the underlying soils. New Geosciences Limited can provide in-situ testing, such as soil shear strength/ density, and laboratory testing for both geo-environmental and geotechnical purposes.
If you have a site that requires hand excavated trial pits and associated engineering assessment, call us on 07966 469835 to discuss your requirements. You can also email us at info@newgeosciences.co.uk.
